SURF - Subsea Systems

Nexus Deepwater Engineering prides itself in the Shallow & Deepwater market.  Our experienced team has Topsides, Subsea (shallow / deepwater) and SURF expertise. We have 80+ years experience with indepth knowledge on handling simple-to-complex subsea projects. For example, when we were selected to provide a solution for an SSIV project in Vietnam, our company provided a Systems level approach all the way to detailed design engineering. We have the ability to cover a wide spectrum of subsea complexities and deepwater technologies. We are a quality driven company that ensures engineering integrity. Whenever we take a project we evaluate the project requirements, system requirements and scope of work.

Nexus team has the ability to do the following:

  • Take a System's Approach and establish System Engineering requirements
  • Evaluate the Control System requirements - Selection, optimization, testing,   installation and commissioning.

  • Direct Hydraulics vs Multiplex (MUX) system selection

  • Subsea Control Module (SCM) driven systems, functionalities and control capabilities.

  • Master Control Station (MCS) requirements on topside. Interfacing with FPS / FPSO Systems

  • Electrical Power Units (EPU)

  • Hydraulic Power Units (HPU) - Providing water-glycol based High & Low Pressure system for subsea fluid power

  • TUTA (Topside Umbilical Termination Assemblies)

  • Single and Multiphase Flow Meter selection

  • Intelligent Well Controls (IWC) for smart wells and mutilpe zone control.

  • Surface Controlled Subsea Safety Valve (SCSSV) selection and controls via SCM

  • Develop Hydraulic and Electrical P&ID's, system layouts, single line diagrams and schematics

  • If there is a need for FEED, we provide the Field Development & Architecture philosophies and options to generate the Net Value.
  • Umbilicals: Most subsea systems require control umbilicals primarily electro-hydraulic umbilicals. We evaluate the field life and determine if steel tubes or thermoplastic tubes would best suit the project needs. Nexus has been involved in FEED, writing Umbilical Functional Design Specifications, Reviewing Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), Involved in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), umbilical commissioning (pre/post umbilical testing)
  • Risers: From detail design to procurement, Nexus has the expertise in Risers.
  • Flowlines / Pipelines: Our team has the expertise in flowlines / pipelines (onshore /offshore).
  • Soil Conditions are a a key driver. We look at Metaocean Data to evaluate subsea equipment foundation options viz Mudmats or Piles.
  • Metaocean Data and Basis of Design documents are used for understanding ambient and operating conditions.
  • Subsea Distribution: Umbilical termination subsea requires a system of distribution that will provide the electrical and hydraulic connectivity. A system of Hydraulic and/or Steel Flying Leads provides this solution. Electrical flying leads provide power and communication to the subsea control module.
  • Subsea Christmas Trees: Horizontal and Vertical Trees provide certain advantages. Selection of a Subsea Tree system plays a central role in achieving first oil.
  • Manifold System along with Well Jumpers, Flowlines & Flowline Jumpers , PLETS and PLEMS; either for Production, Water Injection or Gas Injection require meticulous engineering. The goal is to provide an optimized system that will handle earthquakes, water current dynamics and other factors for a life of 25 - 30yrs.
  • Interface Engineering Management: We define, optimize and provide an interface management vehicle to steer the project in the right direction. Interfaces are critical and tend to add to project CAPEX if not managed properly.
